On
October 26, 1993, NFL owners unanimously selected Carolina as the 29th NFL
franchise and the first expansion team since 1976. Fireworks exploded over
uptown Charlotte as jubilant fans gathered to celebrate the news. "This
is a dream come true for me and my partners and for the 10 million people
in the Carolinas," said Carolina Panthers Owner/Founder Jerry Richardson,
who became just the second former player to own an NFL team along with George
Halas of the Chicago Bears. |

Charlotte Bobcats are a professional basketball team based in Charlotte,
North Carolina, USA. They play in the Southeast Division, created because
of the team's entry, of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball
Association. The Bobcats joined the league in 2004, two seasons after Charlotte's
previous NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets relocated to New Orleans and became
the New Orleans Hornets. |

Charlotte Eagles are an American soccer team, founded in 1993. The team is a member of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division, the third tier of the American Soccer Pyramid. They currently play their home games in the stadium at Waddell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team's colors are orange, white and blue. On October 30, 1996 a new era began in the city of Charlotte, as they were awarded one of the eight franchises in the newly formed Women’s National Basketball League (WNBA). Work quickly began to create a team the city could be proud of. One of the first orders of business was to begin to build a roster for the fledgling franchise.
